SMALL VICTORY BAKERY: DECENT SANDWICHES

My friend wanted to check out Small Victory so that we met on Friday afternoon to try their brunch. Small Victory is located in Yaletown, a five-minute walk from the Yaletown-Roundhouse Skytrain Station. It is a spacious bakery with a nice, lovely interior and the open-concept kitchen. You get to see how your drinks are made from the beginning.

So this lady is making my matcha latte right in front of me by using a Japanese whisk.
MATCHA LATTE ($5.00) had a deep green tea flavour with a thick layer of microfoam on top. Two of my friends all got the pour-over coffees and they were all satisfied with that as well.
And then our delicious sandwhiches came!
I got the BRAISED BEEF SANDWICH ($11) which consisted of braised beef, caramelized onions, spinach, and melted Monterey Jack cheese served on a naturally leavened white whole wheat bread. We thought that the the flavour of caramelized onions overpowered the meat but regardless of that it tasted pretty good.
TO DIE FOR CORNED BEEF SANDWICH was on their new lunch menu which was also my favourite on the day. It consisted of slow cooked corned beef, sauerkraut, melted Monterey Jack cheese and mustard on steamed rye bread. The beef was moist, tender bursting with subtle spice and deliciously robust. The mustard and the adequate amount of auerkraut enhanced the flavour which went very good with the corned beef.
SPICY TURCHETTA ($11) was my least favourite but only because I am not a big fan of turkey. It had turkey breast rolled in a sage spice mix, a mushroom gravy and spinach served on a naturally leavened white whole wheat bread.
After our meal, we ordered two pastries including PISTACHIO CREAM CAKE and EARL GREY TART. The cream cake was soft and moist enough with a nice nutty flavour and tangy lemon curd. The crushed pistachio and whipped cream on top enhanced the tender, melt-in-the-mouth texture of cake. The earl grey tart was alright, but we all agreed that the tart did not taste like earl grey, but it rather was similar to banana cream pie.
Overall, I was satisfied with Small Victory. Although it can be a bit more pricey than other places, I really loved the ambience and their interior decor. Some might think the price doesn't meet the quality of food but I think it is okay price especially when it is in Yaletown.
