BETA5 is a small chocolate and pastry shop located in an industrial area on the edge of downtown Vancouver. BETA5 was named as one of North America's top ten chocolatiers while receiving numerous international Chocolate Awards. According to their website, their chocolates are produced in small batches using sustainable, direct trade plantation chocolates and premium ingredients. I really wanted to try their Ice Cream Socials but it was only available on Fridays (5-9pm) and Saturdays (1-5pm) only. So I got a box of handcrafted chocolates and cream puffs instead.

BETA5's Spring 2015 Seasonal Collection looked absolutely beautiful and gorgeous! I chose the most of chocolates from the Spring Collection. Imperial Stout, Rhubarb-Oatmeal (Spring Collection), Absinthe (Spring), Strawberry-Chamomile (Summer), Bird Seed Praline (Spring) and Bay Leaf ($2.5 per each/Clockwise from left).
I liked how they placed a layer of dark chocolate on the bottom of the box!
Imperial Stout, an award-winning filing made by blending Green Flash Brewing Co.'s Double Stout with a 45% milk chocolate.

Bird Seed Praline is the sunflower seeds blended with chocolate and a variety of seeds, finished with local sea salt. THIS IS A MUST. My personal favourite chocolate used to be Ferrero Rocher because I love the chocolate that has some nuts and crunchy wafers. Bird Seed Praline has an interesting crunchy, crispy texture and the sea salt creates a subtle sweetness. I loved it so much! I was a bit skeptical why this place was popular for their chocolate but after this one, everything was clear. They deserve it!
Rhubarb-Oatmeal is their famous chocolate that won the 2014 International Chocolate Award, Silver at the Canadian Finals. It had rhubarb-vanilla jelly, parked with a spiced, roasted oatmeal and white chocolate ganache.
Strawberry-Chamomile was one of my favourites. It didn't have too much dark chocolate but instead it was filled with a creamy chamomile-infused white chocolate ganache with strawberry jelly. It tasted just amazing.
BETA5 is also famous for their tasty Cream Puffs - the crisp choux shells filled with an assortment of different creams and custards.
I randomly chose 4 cream puffs including Vietnamese Coffee, Coconut & Passionfruit, Raspberry-Earl Grey and Strawberry-Chamomile Cream Puff (Clockwise from left; Single Puff: $5, Box of 4: $18, Box of 9: $40).
Vietnamese Coffee Cream Puff from the BETA5's Signature Cream Puff Collection. This one consists of two different types of creams. The coffee & blonde chocolate cremeux on the bottom, and the coffee & condensed milk chantilly on top. The cremeux is a dense, soft pudding or more custard-like filling that has strong Vietnamese coffee flavours. You know why it's named after Vietnamese coffee as soon as you have a bite. I didn't like the cream on top compared to the chocolate cremeux, but I can't deny the fact that it was still delicious. Very light and fluffy with a hint of coffee flavour. The puff itself was very well-made too; had a nice crisp (not crunchy) with a softer texture on the inside of the shell, but not soggy at all.
Strawberry-Chamomile Cream Puff was my favourite puff! This is on their seasonal menu, so available until September 30!
Unless you can arrive at your destination within one hour, don't think about getting these cute puffs back home.
 Because they die :'(
Regardless of its shape and soggy shell, I can't describe how much I liked it. There are 3 different layers of cream inside and each of them has a very distinctive flavour. When you have a bite, you taste a strong vanilla-flavoured frosting first. Then, there goes vanilla chantilly, rich earl grey custard, and refreshing raspberry mousse. Sooooo tasty. This is a must.
