J and I were at metrotown for the movie, but we arrived way too early. So, we just wanted to have some early light dinner before the movie. We didn't have many options inside the mall, but Sekai seemed to be good so we decided to give it a try.
Although Sekai is more popular for their udon, I couldn't resist Salmon Sashimi (9pcs - $12) when I saw it on the menu. Unlike my expectation, it was actually really fresh and strong in flavours (4.0/5.0).
I was so excited to see White Tuna on the menu, so I ordered it as well. However, it was just regular Albacore Tuna which I don't like much. When I asked about it, the waitress responded in such a courteous manner, and removed it from the bill. They don't offer a wide range of sashimi options so it might not be the best place to have raw fish here.
J got a Tonkatsu Udon ($12.50) which comes in a hot pork & chicken broth with 2 slices of chashu, chopped green onions, baby bok choy, and a soft-boiled egg. The soup is a bit weak in flavour but glad it wasn't too salty. The udon noodles were not too bad but lacked the chewiness. The chashu was pretty good and well-seasoned. Their soft-boiled egg was perfect as the yolk was mostly set and a bit runny in the middle (3.0/5.0).
I wasn't too hungry on the day so I planned to have sashimi only with some beer. However, as I kept drinking I started craving some greasy food. I ordered their Japoutine ($6.75) which is basically Japanese style pourtine consisting of tempura battered fries with mozzarella cheese and gravy. It was pretty tasty! The fries were really different from what I've used to have. Very large pieces with crunchy texture but still soft and moist on the inside. Generous portion sizes and lots of cheese! (3.5/5.0).
