Minami: Pleasant Dining Experience

Minami has been on my to-visit list for a while and finally got to try it. I had high expectations because of all the hypes. I can say the overall experience was better than their sister restaurant, Miku, but it didn't really meet my expectation. I still want to compliment on their excellent customer service as well as ambience! Every staff was very knowledgeable about the food and attentive.
Sashimi Platter ($20 per person) consisted of Sockeye Salmon, Albacore Tuna, Red Tuna, Hirame (Flounder), Hamachi (Yellowtail), Botan Ebi (BC Spot Prawn). My favourite was amaebi. Everything else was pretty good, but I wished they offered either toro or hamachi toro instead of albacore tuna.
Ebi Fritters ($15) are deep-fried tiger prawns topped with sweet chili aioli, soy balsamic reduction, with wild arugula and spiced couscous on the side. Very crispy and the prawns blended well with the sauce. Really liked the chili aioli. Deep fried prawns with couscous was very interesting.
Minami Roll ($16.5) consisted of spicy prawns, cucumber, wrapped in Aburi short rib and wasabi masatake sauce. I was glad the roll was not stuffed with overwhelming amount of sushi rice. I wasn't really familiar with the masatake sauce, but it's basically the housemade sauce containing ginger, onions, soy sauce, vinegar and sesame oil. It complimented the roll very well.
Salmon Oshi Sushi ($16) is one of the most popular items at Minami for sure. It's basically pressed sushi with BC wild salmon inside and outside, topped with jalapeño and special Miku sauce. It was tasty but I enjoyed more at Kishimoto.

Overall dining experience was great because of excellent service and nice ambience. I might come back to try other items - I believe there will be some reasons why people are so hyped up about this place! I gotta figure out.
